In the UK, the latest Unisys Security Index has demonstrated that over the last 12 months there is an increasing gap between how governments and law enforcement organisations deal with the volume of data on social networks, and the legalities of responding when a company suffers a data breach. It is clear that the public want to see protective measures in place that will safeguard them from a repeat of such instances and guarantee their freedom of access to the Internet.
Key Facts
- 48 per cent of the public support the temporary shutdown of social networks to prevent coordinated criminal activity during periods of civil unrest
- 46 per cent accept that authorities should be able to access data about social network use if it helps improve public safety
- 56 per cent will take legal action against companies which suffer breaches relating to personal data online
