Summary

The Unisys Security Index surveyed more than 11,000 people in 12 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. The research showed identity theft and bank card fraud are the two most pressing concerns worldwide.

  • Bankcard fraud is the leading area of concern. It is the number one threat in seven countries and the number two threat in five more. Identity theft is also a major source of concern, with worry about unauthorized access to personal information the top threat among adults in five countries and the number two threat in five more countries.
  • Ability to meet financial obligations, despite delays in the recovery from the worldwide financial crisis, is not now among the top three concerns in any of the countries surveyed.
  • Global security concern has increased slightly since the 2012 Unisys Security Index, from 140 to 143, driven largely by large increases in concern levels in Europe and Australia However concern levels dropped in the US, New Zealand and Latin America.
