Summary

The Unisys Security Index surveyed more than 10,000 people in 12 countries: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Colombia, Germany, Hong Kong, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States. The research showed identity theft and bank card fraud are the two most pressing concerns worldwide.

Key Facts

  • Typically, most people appear to worry more about having their identities stolen than being the victim of a physical attack. In all countries except Brazil and Mexico, concern about identity theft far outweighed concern about personal safety.
  • Concern about unauthorized access to personal information was the top threat among adults in six countries and the number two threat in five more countries. Bankcard fraud was the second most worrisome threat and was the number one threat in five countries and the number two threat in six more.
  • Global security concern has dropped slightly since the 1H 2011 Unisys Security Index, from 147 to 140, driven largely by large decreases in concern levels in the UK, US and Germany. However there was a slight uptick in the concern levels in six countries: Netherlands, Mexico, Hong Kong, Colombia, Belgium, and New Zealand.
