The Unisys Security IndexTM presents a social indicator regarding how safe consumers feel on key areas of security.

Conducted twice a year, the Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure of concerns about four areas of security:
  • National security
  • Financial security
  • Internet security
  • Personal security
  • All four areas of security recorded decreases in the level of concern expressed by New Zealanders – down 11 points overall
  • Internet security recorded the most significant decrease in level of concern – down 21 points from April 2009
  • 1 in 4 New Zealanders are seriously concerned about the ability of financial service providers to protect their personal data

What's new in the report

The October 2009 Unisys Security Index for New Zealand is 113 – significantly lower than the April 2009 results. The 11 point decrease largely reverses the previous15 point jump. All four areas of security concern fell, with the largest decreases in Internet and financial security – down 21 points and 12 points respectively. The proportion of people extremely or very concerned about the security of shopping or banking online has fallen from 46% in April to 31% in October. 1 in 4 New Zealanders are seriously concerned about the ability of financial service providers to protect their personal data.
