The Unisys Security IndexTM presents a social indicator regarding how safe consumers feel on key areas of security.

Conducted twice a year, the Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure of concerns about four areas of security:
  • National security
  • Financial security
  • Internet security
  • Personal security
    • 7 out of 10 New Zealanders will sacrifice privacy for greater security during air travel
    • 66% of New Zealanders said they would be willing to submit to full body electronic body scans at the airport
    • 22% of New Zealand adults said they were extremely or very concerned about their personal security, up 7 points since October 2009

What's new in the report

The April 2010 Unisys Security Index for New Zealand stands at 115 which is two points higher than October 2009. The largest movement was in the area of personal security, which measures concerns about overall personal safety and the security of personal information, which increased 7 percent since October 2009. Additional research found the vast majority of New Zealand air travellers are willing to sacrifice some privacy in order to attain greater aviation security and more convenience with 66% saying they would be willing to submit to full body electronic body scans at the airport; 67% willing to prove their identity by providing biometric data such as iris scans and fingerprints; and 75% willing to provide personal data in advance of travel including passports and driver’s licences.
