The Unisys Security IndexTM presents a social indicator regarding how safe consumers feel on key areas of security.
Conducted twice a year, the Index provides a regular, statistically robust measure of concerns about four areas of security:
National security
Financial security
Internet security
Personal security
• 7 out of 10 Australians will sacrifice privacy for greater security during air travel
• 70% of Australians said they would be willing to submit to full body electronic body scans at the airport
• An estimated 645,000 more Australians are concerned about their personal safety compared to October 2009.
The April 2010 Unisys Security Index for Australia stands at 123 which is unchanged since October 2009. However within that, the Personal Security Index, measuring concerns about overall personal safety and the security of personal information, rose five points from October 2009, and concerns about internet security fell five points. Additional research found the vast majority of Australian air travellers are willing to sacrifice some privacy in order to attain greater aviation security and more convenience with 68% saying they would be willing to prove their identity by providing biometric data such as iris scans and fingerprints; 70% willing to submit to full body electronic body scans at the airport; and 77% willing to provide personal data in advance of travel including passports and driver’s licences.
